Abstract

Equine paranasal cysts are multilobed structures that have an epithelial lining and are normally filled with fluid. They have a progressive and destructive nature that lead to different problems in horses, ranging from facial deformations, to pressure atrophy in the maxillary molar teeth. Over time, they have gained great importance in clinical practice. A Brazilian Sport Horse (Brasileiro de Hipismo) mare, 5 years old, was sent to the equine dentistry center (COE, FMVZ/USP). On clinical examination, purulent discharge and reduced airflow were identified. On oral cavity was found a fracture of 210 tooth. The present work describes the relevant findings in the radiographic and endoscopic examinations, as well as the established treatment, a maxillary sinusotomy for removal the cyst. The patient had a good evolution.
