This article highlights the results of a case study carried out with rural women from ASMUC (Asociación de mujeres campesinas Brisas de la Esperanza), in the municipality of Cubarral, focused on analyzing the role of rural women in food security and sustainable development of the municipality, which developed a group of empowered women, with participation in livestock projects, making their contribution to the municipality's economy with the production of cheese products; However, it has not been possible to enhance other production systems established on its farms, such as; bristles, poultry, gardens, coffee, among others, which are intended for self-consumption, because the quantity produced is insufficient to commercialize and the quality does not generate support for the economy of their families and the municipality. The rural woman object of study through the association, contributes to sustainable development, with good agricultural practices in production systems, supports processes of reforestation, recycling, care of forests and water sources, to help satisfy the needs of the present generation without compromising the resources of future generations. The association contributes to achieving a balance between: economic growth, social inclusion and environmental protection; considering that sustainable development implies conservation and protection of the environment, including biodiversity, water resources and air quality. It is essential to include policies and programs in development plans linked to rural women, strengthening their participation in security food sector, with training processes to support its initiatives and allow it to be seen as a social actor, being fundamental for the development of rural society, in the quest for the fulfillment of sustainable development objectives and thus working to address global challenges, such as climate change, poverty and food security.
